Jackson Beck was one of the great Actors during Radio's Golden Age. Jackson Beck has the voice and sophistication of William Powell, so much so I often find myself feeling it is William Powell playing the part. Philo Vance was popular with audiences as the stories were well acted, well written and provided a good detective show. The only issue for me with the program is the modernized sounding musical score. I am not sure what the style would have been considered, but possibly an early 1950's Jazz style. Radio Archives has produced these Radio Shows in sparkling audio and tonal quality, that I am sure are clearer than when initially broadcast. Highly recommended, but get ready for an unusual musical score that modern listeners just may appreciate more that was the case for me.
