Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Volume 1

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is considered one of the greatest tales of horror to date. When one of the best, but most underrated producers of the Golden Age Radio added in his production and vocal skills, a true radio serial classic was born and is now collected in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Volume 1.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is just one of over 300 radio series and serials produced by George Edwards over the course of his twenty year career in radio. Telling Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of a man divided, this fifteen minute serial debuted in 1943, running for 52 episodes, and was produced by Edwards, a well-known Australian radio personality. The man behind other Australian series, such as Afloat with Henry Morgan and Adventures of Marco Polo lent not only his production skills to Jekyll and Hyde, but shared his amazing vocal talents as well. Edwards’ skill to do multiple voices in a single episode definitely fit the needs of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Dr. Jekyll and Mister Hyde, Volume 1 collects the first 28 episodes, 7 hours, of one of the best serial adventures of the radio era. The intense pacing of each episode as well as the high quality production values and the talented voice acting of George Edwards and the rest of the cast make this a must have for any fan of Classic Radio.

5 of 5 At last it is here! May 25, 2022

This radio show is by the production team of George Edwards and Inc. If he sounds familiar you might have heard the gorgeous reproduction of The Adventures of Marco Polo that I own and also highly recommend. Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a wonderful show that REALLY takes a harder edged look into the background and psychological background of Henry Jekyll from boy to man. They even threw in a few episodes that have incidents that weren't even in the book. I'm not sure why, but I would hazard a guess for multiple show format and possibly censorship. At any rate buy the CDs or get the download because you will love The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

5 of 5 A True Classic....... May 25, 2022
Reviewer: Richard McLeod from RIVERSIDE, CA United States
This story ranks at the top of great Literature and continues to fascinate.  It has been filmed many times, both as a Silent feature with John Barrymore in the 1920's, later as a "talkie" with Fredric March, Miriam Hopkins and Rose Hobart in the 1930's, and another MGM talking feature in the 1940's with Spencer Tracy, Ingrid Bergman and Lana Turner.  This Radio version version ranks with the best of what has been put many times on film, if not better as the mind creates the images.  Highly recommended for creativity, sound quality, and overall high production values as put out by Radio Archives on either CD or download.  You will be very pleased with either medium.
