Operating out of the supposedly haunted Montgomery Mansion, Secret Agent “X” ventures forth in a bewildering array of false identities to infiltrate the darkest underbellies of the Underworld—and destroy it from within. The only clue to his true identity is his haunting whistle…..
Secret Agent “X”s far-flung, crime-crushing organization brought him whisperings of a fiend who meted out a death worse than death––a monster who called himself the Ghoul, for this Ghoul made men living prisoners in an amber colored shroud of their own dead flesh. And even Secret Agent “X,” the man of a thousand disguises, a thousand surprises, was checkmated when he pried into the Ghoul’s palace of pain.
The enigma of enigmas, Secret Agent “X” has been deputized by a high government official to battle the darkest, most diabolical enemies of America before they sink their poisonous fangs into the nation’s healthy core. Faceless and unsung, “X” infiltrates these threats in a bewildering array of disguises.
Although Paul Chadwick created Secret Agent “X”, G. T. Fleming-Roberts contributed the most stories to the character’s canon. Fleming-Roberts also contributed to other series. Most notably, Diamondstone the Magician and the Green Ghost were crime solvers of a sort that Fleming-Roberts enjoyed creating; magician detectives. This interest in slightly different crime tales probably contributed a great deal to Fleming-Roberts’ work on Secret Agent “X”.
Walking a fine line between Government Agent and masked vigilante, Secret Agent “X” almost demanded villains more extreme than he was. Street level crime was not what the likes of Doctor Marko, The Ghoul, Thoth, and Madam Death practiced. They brought mass murder and hysteria and only a figure such as Secret Agent “X” could stand up to them.

Milton Bagby is a veteran radio announcer and voiceover specialist who first turned to audiobooks in 2010. Since then, Milton has worked on over a hundred audiobook projects as a narrator or producer. Drawing upon years of stage acting and the occasional bit part in films, Milton uses his experience to create characters that stand out in the ear of the listener.
“I am very much aware that a perfect stranger is going to invest eight or ten hours listening to me tell a story. I do my best to give the listener an experience in which the characters in that story come alive and sound real.”
When not behind a microphone, Milton is a writer. In addition to the well-received Rick Burkhart crime novels, Milton writes a line of 1950s style pulp stories, and is the author of dozens of magazine articles and two non-fiction books. Milton and his wife live in Nashville.
