G-8 and His Battle Aces #57 Audiobook
Patrol of the Iron Hand
by Robert J. Hogan
Read by Nick Santa Maria
They called G-8 the Flying Spy. History never recorded his exploits—and for good reason! No one would ever believe World War I was that wild!
Death walks the world in an iron garb and sleeps in the dismal caves of Hell! Stahlmaske once more roams the Front — and the bodies of the damned lie strewn in his wake! The steel Monster of Death rolled on — its hungry jaws reached greedily for the lives of G-8’s comrades. Yet G-8 flies on futile wings to his showdown with Death — where courage is stronger than the stoutest steel — and he can see inside the gaping jaws of Hell!
One reason that
G-8 and His Battle Aces
proved so popular in the golden age of Pulp Fiction and still are well known among fans of today is the sheer strangeness of the enemies the Master Spy fought. Hellish, monstrous creatures fought on the sides of the Central Powers, eager and hungry, literally sometimes, for the blood of G-8. Death rays, deadly plagues, and other scientific abominations also featured at the heart of conflict in many of the tales penned by Robert J. Hogan. Even green Martians and resurrected Vikings make an appearance in G-8’s rogues gallery, assuring that his stories were, at least until the future war fought by Popular’s Dusty Ayers, the definition of weird war tales.
Steel Mask was a villain that would attempt to destroy G-8 again and again. Wearing his namesake to cover a mutilated face, he blamed G-8 for his hideous visage. A blimp shot down by America’s Master Spy crashed to the ground, burning, and left Steel Mask not only scarred permanently, but on a flight path into vengeance forever. Other villains would haunt G-8 for similar reasons.
Nick Santa Maria brings G-8, Nippy and Bull to thrilling life in their desperate struggle to defeat a mechanical nemesis unlike anything they have ever before encountered in Patrol of the Iron Hand. Originally published in the June, 1938 issue of
G-8 and His Battle Aces magazine.
Nick DeGregorio composed the music for the G-8 and His Battle Aces series of audiobooks.
