Secret Agent "X" #36 Audiobook
Curse of the Mandarin’s Fan
by G. T. Fleming-Roberts writing as Brant House
Read by Milton Bagby

Operating out of the supposedly haunted Montgomery Mansion, Secret Agent “X” ventures forth in a bewildering array of false identities to infiltrate the darkest underbellies of the Underworld—and destroy it from within. The only clue to his true identity is his haunting whistle…..

Chang, lord of Chinatown’s secret catacombs, ruler of an empire of hell—held the dire curse of a fan of evil. And the blood of the innocent was shed with the blood of the guilty... And even Secret Agent “X”, nemesis of master criminals, found himself hopelessly entangled in this strange, mad vortex of rival kings of nefarious crime.

The enigma of enigmas, Secret Agent “X” has been deputized by a high government official to battle the darkest, most diabolical enemies of America before they sink their poisonous fangs into the nation’s healthy core. Faceless and unsung, “X” infiltrates these threats in a bewildering array of disguises.

Other characters prior to Secret Agent “X” crossed the line between crime and weird horror. Paul Chadwick’s own Wade Hammond is an instance, a character cast in the Sam Spade hard boiled detective mold who confronted mad scientists and bouncing balls of electric death and the like in every case. The Spider stands as another instance, but the authors behind Secret Agent “X” truly brought the sub genre where mystery meets menace into its own.

Not only was his identity a secret, but Secret Agent “X”s true role as a crimefighter was also kept from most people. This often put him in the crosshairs of law enforcement as well as the lawless he pursued. Only a select few, including reporter Betty Dale and K-9, the figure that was just as mysterious as “X” who dictated his missions, were truly aware of “X”’s mission against evil.

Follow the Man of a Thousand Faces as he confronts the menace of Curse of the Mandarin’s Fan, ripped from the pages of Secret Agent “X” magazine, February 1938 and read with chilling intensity by Milton Bagby.
