The Spider #50 Audiobook
Master of the Flaming Horde
by
Norvell W. Page writing as Grant Stockbridge
Read by Nick Santa Maria
Over Manhattan’s dizzy towers fell that insidious, invisible menace — an unseen cloud of death that first transformed the entire metropolis into a laughing, drunken riot and then blasted it to bits! Who was the evil Master of these Flame Men, who had found a real way to amass millions by gutting New York with fire? In defense of those reeling, giggling victims, trapped in their awesome death-spree, Richard Wentworth, in the
Spider’s
weird robes, rose from the charred embers — to fight his greatest battle against an arson assassin no one had ever seen — for a doomed people so blind-drunk they could not see!
A deeply religious man, author Norvell W. Page began infusing latter Spider stories with undercurrents of a strange spiritual quest. A Tibetan monk became a recurring character, issuing prophecies. Psychic phenomenon became a constant theme. Jesus was often evoked.
The Spider
did not speak lightly of evil. He was too gentle, too tender a lover, to blot the glamorous night with useless vaporings. He was too courageous to take fright from vague notions. But through years of struggle and danger—not alone from the Underworld but also from the police who considered his brand-marked executions of criminals only murder—he had developed an uncanny feeling like the sixth sense of bats. Flying in the dark, scarcely seeing, an impact of air waves which warning the animal of obstacles in its path. So something—thought waves?—warned the Spider of danger.
Nick Santa Maria takes on the dual persona of Richard Wentworth and his arachnid alter-ego for this nail-biting audio rendition of
